Snow day Update! Jan 27, 2011

Charger Fans! Hope you are enjoying the Snow.
The Chantilly Chargers are having a great season so far, sitting at 21-8, 2-2 in the Concorde District, best in school history. The Grapplers were 5-0 at the Panther Duals in December, with Freshmen Logan Barr, Joe Rivetti, and Walt Carlson getting their first career wins! Success continued at the Warhawk Duals, as the team went 4-2. Great individual performances by Bernabe Mejia, Sam Cronin (6-0 on his birthday), Zach Spencer, Ben Cobb, Cameron Rhodes, and Ian Shircliff paced the team. The high point of the Dual season was an unexpected 5-1, 3rd Place Finish at the "Grandd-addy of them All" Virginia Duals Jan 7-8th, 2011. The team avenged an earlier loss to Rverbend HS, pulled out a tough win against local rival Langley HS (Gutsiest operformance of the season by Joe Rivetti), and defeated surprise Phoebus HS in the Consolation Finals 41-24. Mejia was again undefeated for the weekend. Hank Pitts, Asad Khan, and Sam Little all stepped up as the upper weights line up changed constantly.
The Chargers have faired well in Individual events as well. They had their highest ever finish at the NOVA Classic, at 6th of 32 teams. Mejia's 3rd, Ricky Lopez's 4th, Kyle Smith's 5th and Shircliff's 6th paced the team. The Chargers followed it up with a 2nd place finish at the Osbourn Park Jacket Invitational. Senior Wes Litton had his first HS tournament Championship, and Ryland Arnold, Rivetti, Spencer, and Joe Scholnick were runner-ups. Meanwhile, Cronin and Mejia were representing Chantilly at the Beast of the East, earning wins. The Holiday break saw the Chargers travel north to PA to compete at the Governor Mifflin Holiday Tournament. Cronin finished 3rd, Mejia (up a weight class) and Litton 4th, Lopez 6th, and Specer 8th.
The last event before the snow was the State Championship Tune up event- The USMC Ultimate Challenge. The Team placed a respectable 8th of 13, in a field that included former State winning teams Colonial Forge, Cox, Great Bridge, and Maryland's Mount St. Joe's. Caravel Academy even travelled from Delaware for the meet. Once again, Mejia led the team with a 2nd place finish at 171. He placed ahead of two state ranked opponents. Cronin was next at 3rd, Lopez had another strong event finishing 4th. Scholnick and Cobb were able to get payback for earlier losses on the way to a 5th and 7th place finish respectivley. Shircliff's 6th and Arnold's 7th finished up the team scoring. Khan, Spencer, and Ali Nadri all performed well in the consolation matches.
With Senior Night versus Centreville left to go, the team is gearing up for the " Real" season- Districts at CV Feb 4-5, Regionals at Fairfax Feb 11-13, and AAA States Feb 19-20 at Robinson SS
GO CHARGERS!
