MOW Interview

Part II of the MOW Interviews

Roy Hill, Head Coach Hayfield SS
President VAWA, NVWCA

1. What year did you graduate HS and what do you do now?
I graduated from Hayfield Secondary School in 1984. Currently I teach biology at Hayfield and head coach of the football and wrestling teams.

2. What wrestler did you most admire from your days (teammate or other team) and why?

The wrestler I most admired was a college teammate named Ben Walker. Ben was a two time conference champion, was quick, explosive, and very hard working. He was humble and worked with others. Ben also played on the baseball team.

3. Describe your best wrestling memory?

My best memory came as a coach, watching a kid who had been homeless, orphaned, and suffered from a profound learning disability win a state championship his senior year.

4. Describe a wrestling skill that best translates to real life.

Wrestling is about hard work, sacrifice, and a lack of recognition by the vast majority of the school community. It is what drives people to be successful.
